Alleged Bondi Beach Attackers Acted Solo and Received No Training in the Philippines, Authorities State.

The two alleged individuals responsible for the fatal shooting at a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach, that took 15 lives, reportedly acted alone, as stated by national authorities.

Authorities additionally revealed that the 50-year-old Sajid Akram, and his 24-year-old son Naveed Akram flew to the Philippines on 1 November. Their travel plans involved arriving in the capital Manila before connecting that same day to Davao City. The father and son flew back to Sydney on 29 November.

Lack of Proof of Planning During Visit

Investigators indicate the pair did not partake in any type of attack-related training or "planning" during their visit in the Philippines. Preliminary investigations from local officials point to they "hardly ventured out of" their accommodation.

The attack—declared Australia's most severe mass shooting since 1996—has been formally declared a terrorist incident.

"We are currently examining the material," she stated, adding that preliminary evaluations indicate that "the two men are believed to have operated independently."

Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett informed media on Tuesday that CCTV footage showing the accused attackers' whereabouts in the Philippines had been handed over to Australian authorities.

"Our investigation shows little to no indication to support the idea these alleged offenders were affiliated with a wider organization, or were acting on orders from overseas entities to carry out an attack," the police chief emphasized.

Yet, the duo were also not necessarily in the Philippines as tourists, she noted. She underscored that, given that the probe is ongoing, new evidence could surface.

Inspiration and Legal Proceedings

In prior statements, the nation's leader Anthony Albanese commented it seems both accused attackers were "influenced by the so-called Islamic State" beliefs.

During the attack, Sajid Akram was killed by police. He and his son Naveed—both armed with long-barrelled guns—are accused of having opened fire on guests at the Hanukkah celebration.

Naveed Akram, who was wounded after the shooting, has been charged with 59 crimes. These comprise 15 charges of murder and one count of carrying out a terrorist act. He is expected to face court in April.

In the wake following the shooting, immigration authorities in the Philippines stated that the father had arrived in the country using an foreign passport, while his son used an Australian passport.

The duo had stated the southern city of Davao as their intended endpoint. Their booked return flight to Australia was for Sydney.
