A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a cultural melody to the Christmas number one spot. The effort aims to send support to people in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
The song was recorded after a large-scale benefit event held in September. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of musicians contributing to Lullaby features a group of well-known figures from the music world. All participated in the September show, which reportedly raised a significant sum for charitable causes.
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of producers and composers. The track showcases a fusion of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The team running the initiative have emphasized that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These resources will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“There is no a specific target,” a spokesperson commented. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was characterized as its widespread damage, with a overwhelming percentage of property described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a few million is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
