England to Begin UEFA Euro 2028 Quest at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will initiate their Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they secure the expected passage for a competition taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not hosted an English men’s fixture since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a friendly, but is almost certain to stage the Three Lions for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.

England are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning their group, their round of 16 match would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Opening and Rally

The event was unveiled at an ceremony in central London on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the organizing bodies were barracked as they entered the venue by approximately 50 activists, who called for the Israeli team to be kicked out from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.

Signs were held up with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The opening game of the tournament will be played at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will feature the Dragons if they qualify.

The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the title decider, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a start time at late afternoon.

It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will appeal to family audiences and help connect with a wider spectrum of audiences.

Host Nations

The Ireland are set to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and Scotland would do the same at the national stadium of Scotland.

Each host nation’s squad will take part in the qualification process; two guaranteed slots will be reserved for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through the qualification path.

Locations and Knockout Stage

The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground round out the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals staged at every host’s main arena.

The qualifying draw will be conducted in Belfast, which was dropped as a venue city last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.
