European Football's Governing Body Opens Formal Investigation Against Pedro Neto After Push on Paris St-Germain Youth Assistant.

UEFA has commenced a disciplinary case against Chelsea winger the Portuguese international after he pushed over a young stadium attendant in the Champions League match by Paris St‑Germain.

The Portugal international, Neto, knocked the boy in stoppage time of Wednesday's knockout stage fixture at Parc des Princes – a match in which his team suffered a 5-2 – which caused the boy to fall off a chair.

This provoked an altercation between the opposing squads.

Uefa said action has been taken against Neto on grounds of "conduct contrary to sporting spirit" under its disciplinary regulations.

"Uefa's disciplinary bodies will decide on this case in the coming days," UEFA stated.

The Chelsea player said sorry after the match and blamed being caught up "in the emotion of the game" while he was attempting to quickly retrieve the ball.

"I'm not like this. It happened in the passion of the game and I want to apologise. I offered him my jersey as a gesture. I deeply regret it - I feel I have to apologise to him," Neto explained to the media.

"I don't speak French well, and [Portugal team-mate] Vitinha intervened and explained to him I was not like this.

"Finally he [the ball boy] laughed and I presented him with my jersey apologising many times. He realized what had happened and was content with the outcome."

The London club welcome PSG in the upcoming second leg in the second leg, following Newcastle's visit at their home ground this weekend in domestic competition.
