Gavin Newsom States He Is Evaluating a White House Bid in 2028

Gavin Newsom, a prominent member of the Democratic party, has disclosed that he intends to decide on whether to seek the White House in 2028 after the 2026 midterm elections conclude.

"Absolutely, I couldn't be truthful if I denied it," the governor stated when questioned about contemplating a presidential run following the 2026 midterms. "I'd just be lying. And I can't do that."

Newsom's tenure as governor wraps up in the start of 2027, and he cannot run again. However, he noted that any decision is not imminent.

"The future will decide," he said.

Newsom has come to the forefront as a high-profile adversary of the former president's team, employing his digital presence and championing a initiative that would increase the party's congressional seats in response to redistricting by Republicans. This strategy has drawn criticism from critics.

Clash on Transportation

The former president's transportation chief, Sean Duffy, alleged that the governor shows no concern about Californians in a recent segment on a major news network. The secretary disclosed a strategy to pull government money from the state and threatened eliminating the authority to provide commercial driver's licenses.

"I plan to withdraw $160 million from the state," Duffy stated, after a recent tragic collision in the state involving an non-citizen semi truck driver that led to loss of life and four injuries.

A recently conducted poll showed that 72% of Democrats and almost half of voters believed that Newsom should run for president in 2028. After the current administration began, his approval ratings has risen to an average of 33.5% from previous levels, while his disapproval has decreased from an mean of previous highs to under 40%.

In previous months, Newsom commented while on a trip several swing states that he had "no clue" about his plans for the next presidential election.
