Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD released security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries according to reports.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday near MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife just had a child.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in March and was expected to be a key part of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He later played for Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
