The state attorney general has rolled out a fresh digital platform asking citizens to submit images and footage of federal immigration enforcement across New York. This step follows a shortly after a high-profile immigration operation disrupted Chinatown in Manhattan, sparking widespread demonstrations.
A lawmaker announced during a news conference that four citizens were taken into custody and detained for "about 24 hours" following the enforcement action. Demonstrations erupted in the city on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
"Every New Yorker is entitled to reside free from terror," the AG stated in a release.
"If you witnessed and documented ICE activity recently, I encourage you to share that evidence with the authorities. We are pledged to assessing these submissions and investigating any legal breaches."
The platform provides options to send photos and videos of the incident, plus a area to specify where it occurred. When submitting, submitters must check a box that states that "the office might employ any materials, images, or footage in a legal proceeding, including in a legal proceeding or government document."
The enforcement action, which observers say involved over fifty government officers, happened in a popular district of NYC where imitation purses, items, goods and additional items are commonly traded en masse – frequently to visitors.

He clarified the individuals were let go on Wednesday with no legal action taken.
"There's a clear purpose here. It is not about removing offenders," the congressman said. "This is a military-style operation to provoke unrest. It is merely a justification to provoke conflict for federal officials to deploy the troops to stop conflict that they themselves caused."
Anger over the ICE raid rapidly grew – each of the mayoral candidates denounced the raid, as did NY's governor.
"Yet again, the current administration chooses heavy-handed tactics that generate terror, rather than security. It has to end," one mayoral candidate declared.
New York City community groups voiced concern as well.
"Federal officers descended on the neighborhood with armored transports, hooded officers and protective equipment to target street vendors working to survive. This raid had no connection to community security and everything to do with terrorizing immigrant families and areas," remarked the president of a rights organization.
ICE policy prohibits the detention of US citizens and the bureau has said it refrains from apprehend American nationals. Nevertheless, investigative journalism has discovered that more than 170 American nationals have been held against their will by ICE during the period of the existing leadership.
Enforcement actions have been cropping up increasingly in New York and across the US recently.
