The American champion Assured of Being 'in prime form' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, following securing a podium spot for the fourth time in her last five World Cup races.

The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Returning to the iconic venue for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking the right line on the initial jump," Vonn said. "After that, I skied well. I'm pleased with my run today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn stepped away from competition in February 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 following a partial knee replacement.

With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely.

She has an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be in a good place," the athlete confirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has secured over a career spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a 69-point lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This current World Cup circuit features a total of nine races scheduled before the season finals in Norway on 21 March 2026.
