The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
